Someone might say: “You picked a classic… dubtechno too easy, predictable.” That’s not true. I don’t see it that way.
I chose this instantly, in one shot. The idea hit me in a moment and, together with the music I remembered, I was creating what I wanted to express… right now, even if I didn’t know it yet.
But for those who understand, this record cannot be chosen randomly.
At least not in this moment.
I went straight to where it was, grabbed it on the third pull, that never happens to me.
And by following the flow, I set up the recording, turned on the lights, and chose the color I felt.
But the beautiful thing, the part that confirms everything, is that I didn’t remember the name.
And I thought: “I don’t remember the name of this record, but…” With a smile, because I knew it couldn’t be otherwise, I thought: “You’ll see, the name will be perfect.” And that’s exactly how it went.
I needed to hear it, to align the whole picture perfectly. I couldn’t have chosen anything else, because only this reflects what I’m living right now.
It’s exactly like when you’re in the booth, in front of a good crowd that responds, that you’ve understood, and in that precise moment you think about what to play next.
Not because it fits musically, not because it’s perfect for the mix, but because you know what needs to be transmitted next.
Which has nothing to do with all that bullshit.
Because the hardest job, the one that truly distinguishes a DJ, is the art of understanding where he is and, from his own world, choosing the right track — the one that can be understood and therefore appreciated.
Leave the other stuff to those who are constructed, and therefore not real, not spontaneous, not artists. I’m not here playing records because I dream of becoming a superstar. I don’t want to be a superstar.
I don’t care about fame.
I’m not chasing money. I simply want to transmit emotions, real stories — not bullshit.
I know very well that most people won’t understand me, and in fact the message isn’t directed at them, but at you who understand me.
Because building creative connections is better than writing “10k followers” somewhere. Basically, I seek quality, not the masses. I love art, energy, the way it manifests.
To conclude, I’ll tell you a story. A true story, that happened to two DJs, both at the beginning, but one with a bit more experience… a year, maybe two.
The first one couldn’t be present at every gig, and since he spent time with the second DJ, he suggested that he go when he couldn’t. And to maintain a certain musical coherence, he would lend him his records.
And that’s how it went. He even learned when to mix them and which sequences to use. After a couple of times, he asked: “So, how does it go when I’m not there?” And the other, a bit perplexed, said: “There’s nothing to do… with me, people don’t dance to your music.” Same records, different reaction. True story.
A story that reminds me a bit of one of mine, when I played at Smoke in Jesolo Pineta and, thanks to a CD that arrived to Eros at Capannina Beach, I managed to play two summer seasons at Capannina Beach in Jesolo.
Where, thanks to Alan Rogers, when I couldn’t go, he went instead.
That’s why I managed to do two seasons: thanks to a colleague, and his non‑competitive but collaborative attitude. Pure gold in this field.
We barely knew each other, but a strong synergy was born immediately, spontaneously, and lasted for years… until he had to return to the UK for family reasons.
A rare kind of person.
So, to conclude: this is how a real DJ moves. When he chooses a record, he chooses it because it’s the perfect record to tell that story.
